Performs as expected4
This flash performs as expected. Weight balance is average, slides in and out of mount without problem, and has a good rotate-click mechanism for positioning light. Recommended.

flash1
Good Flash does not last long though. I bought the flash about a year ago as a back up flash. I barely used it and the flash bulb burnt out on it very quickly. Unfortunately the warranty just ran out when it quit working and i have to trash a barely used flash.

Very accurate meter5
Gossen meters don't have the bells and whistles of some others but one thing I trust them for is accuracy. I have tried other brands and have seen the inconsistency among them in their readings, up to 2 stops between the same model even.

This model is an upgrade from my older gossen digi 6 flash meter as I wanted a swivel head, otherwise they are similar meters.

Another note is that even in this instant preview digital age for serious studio work a flash meter is still a must for studio work.

A Good All Around Meter4
For a mid-priced meter, this is an excellent meter. Extraordinarily accurate, light weight and does what it's supposed to just as well as Kenko/ Minolta/ Sekonic.

Gossen is one of the oldest names in the business and they have been doing it right for an eon. It's measurements are right on with my Gossen Digi-Spot and my Broncolor FCM2. This Digipro is just easier to bring on location.

For the money, good3
Gossen meters are best suited for outdoor photography, they are calibrated for 5500K daylight. It has been rumored that the japenese meters such as Sekonic and Minolta are calibrated at 3400K.

From my experience using both, I would suspect this is true.... differences can range from a little, to more than a stop....

I like everything about this meter, EXCEPT the ergonomics...to move the up /down button, which you use the most, you must cross your right thumb over to the opposite side of the meter. This is a great meter for a lefty, but not a righty. Hence the 3 stars. Its benefits IMO are, uses standard AA battery, very slim, easy to read numbers... it is really just an incident meter, as the spot meter reads 25 deg, which is not much of a "spot"...but might get you out of a jam at times...

The reliability for the money, can't be beat though.... But if you want ergonomics, the Sekonic dual spots, with their spin wheels are ideal, they fit the hand perfectly... and all the controls are where they should be.

Update: After some time with this meter, its readings became erratic. I no longer use the meter, it could have been a lemon, not sure....

Great little flash5
I use this flash with my Pentax k200d, I puchased this flash after reviewing and trying out the Pentax 540fgz, and a Promaster model. The menu system is a little quirky to use but it did not take me long to figure everything out. I have used this flash on camera, on a Stroboframe, and wireless and it has preformed well in all areas. When I'm ready to buy a second flash it will be Metz thier fit and finish exceeds all others I looked at.

good flash but horid interface4
I chose this over the Pentax 360 flash but now I am wondering if I should have spent a little more for the AF540 from pentax instead. It's not the flashes performance or features but the Metz interface. It it 2 buttons to change the settings and difficult to do so when needed, the Pentax interface I have used on the older AF 500 and 330 flashes are much better and easier to use. I like the exposures this flash gives but once again setting it is just a pain, Metz you need a 1 button or slider switch to choose modes it's not so hard to do. So good performance on my K20D but just hard to set or find it's features due to poor interface.

My first flash5
I bought the Metz 48 AF-1 as my first flash for my first DSLR, a Pentax K-m/K2000. I originally planned to get a AF 360 FGZ from Pentax, but after doing a lot of research I found out that the Metz 48 AF-1 is better in quality and is a lot stronger at the same price-range. I also considered about the Sigma 530 DG ST, but from research I found out that the build is cheap and has a long recharge time. I am very happy with this flash and am glad in my decision to choose this over other flashes, it has a very fast recharge time and it is brighter than what I needed which is perfect.

ALZO Wireless Flash Trigger Receiver - 4 Channel - Comparable to Pocket Wizard Multi-Max - by alzodigital.com
From ALZO

This 4-channel wireless flash receiver is used in multi-studio environments where several photographers work near each other. A wireless camera flash receiver lets you add wireless flash triggering to more flashlights / speedlights in a light kit. Essential in multi-flash speedlight kits as many speedlights lack a "slave trigger mode". Includes a mini-phone plug adaptor and PC socket on back. Comes with a 1-year "no questions asked" component replacement warranty.

  • Brand: ALZO Digital

Pretty mGood for the price4
Actually, I bought an Alzo Wireless Kit and one of this extra receiver, they are pretty useful. I have it for my Elinchrom D-Lite to Go set and I can say they really go for the distance announced and they failed just for a couple of shoots (One of the receivers have failed each time), wich is not a big issue, I know even Elinchrom Skyports fail sometimes, is seems to be normal.

It work in the four frequencies announced like a charm.

The only bad thing I can say about them is that the receiver may trigger themselves if you move your light with them on, probably because of the cord. This is why I didn't give 5 stars, but is really not a very big deal, you can attach them to your lights.

If your shooting with flashlight and you're a little short on budget I can recommend you this trigger kit hands down, you will not regret it. Is really cool not to be dragging a cable around in your shoots ;)

Alzo Wireless Flash Triggers Great Value5
Alzo Wireless Flash Triggers are OK*
Product: Wireless Flash Trigger Receiver - 4 Channel* by *Bob *from United States
*Pros: *great value for the price
*Cons: *could have better shielding
*Best Uses: *great for portrait photographs
*Describe Yourself: *Semi-Pro Photographer
*Bottom Line: *Yes, I would recommend this to a friend Excellent value for the price. I have used them successfully, and they really work!! You just set the toggle switches and plug them in. The only issue may be how well they are shielded. I was shooting portraits in a home, and they just started to go off due to RF interference. However, that was only once, and I've used them in homes, schools, hotels and other places without any problems. They are said to have a more limited range than the more expensive systems. However, I have not had a problem, and long range is not generally my application. Again, a great value for the price.

Sigma EF-530 DG Super Electronic Flash for Sony DSLR
From Sigma Corporation

ELECTRONIC FLASH EF-530 DG SUPER. EF-530 DG SUPER features a powerful Guide Number of 174 ft / 53m and is designed to work with the latest TTL auto exposure systems of all popular manufacturers' digital SLR cameras. Among the advanced features of this flash are modeling flash function, multi pulse flash, TTL wireless flash, FP (high speed) flash, rear-curtain Synchro flash and manual flash mode which allows the photographer to set the flash power level by up to eight stops. The Auto Power-Off function automatically shuts off the LCD panel to help save battery power. When the flashgun is fully charged, a confirmation "ready" light will be emitted. The autozoom function automatically sets the optimum illumination angle in accordance with the lens' focal length in a range from 24mm to 105mm. When the built-in Wide Panel is used, the flash can cover the angle of 17mm. For bounce flash, the flashgun head can be tilted up by 90 degrees, to the left by 180 degrees, or to the right by 90 degrees. It can also be tilted down by 7 degrees allowing ease of use for close-up photography.

When there's insufficient or unsuitable light available to take a picture, it's of paramount importance to have a ready source of supplementary light to fulfill the need. That's where Sigma's EF-530 DG super-electronic flash comes into play. Designed exclusively for Sony digital SLR cameras, the flash offers a powerful guide number of 174 feet/53 meters and boasts the latest TTL automatic flash exposure control for easy operation. More significantly, the EF-530 is outfitted with a host of advanced features, including a modeling flash function, a multi-pulse flash, a TTL wireless flash, an FP (high-speed) flash, a rear-curtain synchro flash, and a manual flash mode that allows the photographer to set the flash power level by up to eight stops. The auto power-off function, meanwhile, automatically shuts off the display to save battery power. And when the flashgun is fully charged, the flash emits a confirmation-ready light, letting you check the flash exposure level through the camera's viewfinder.

Like Sigma's lenses, the EF-530 flash incorporates the latest features and technological advances, most of which aren't found on any other flash units save those made by the major camera makers themselves. What's in the Box
EF-530 DG super flash for Sony cameras, soft case, hot shoe table stand, user's manual.

It's okay, but not, in fact, super.3
This flash works on my Pentax K10D, but not without some caveats.

First, the strengths:

+ It's certainly more flash power than you can get for the money from the official Pentax line-up.

+ Tilt and swivel head.

+ It does a good job working with the K10D's TTL system -- exposure seems generally to be correct.

+ Wireless P-TTL slave mode works great.

+ Focus assist lamp is nice.

And then, the negatives:

- This is a huge flash. It's almost bigger than my camera body. The comparable Pentax AF540FGZ is big too, but I'd trade off some flash power for the feature set in a more compact size.

- The tilt head has a click-lock point at straight forward and at something like 70°-up and a few more between that and straight up -- but nothing at 30° or 45°, and I'm a bit worried that over time it'll get loose and not hold its position. (The Pentax flash has these midway click points.)

- It feels plasticky. doesn't look bad, but doesn't feel solid.

- High-speed sync only works if you disable AutoISO. You probably want to control ISO in your flash shots anyway, but Pentax tech support tells me their official flashes don't have this shortcoming. (Sigma tech support, by the way, wasn't able to explain this to me -- I had to figure out why it wasn't working on my own.)

- Mounting onto the hotshoe is a bit fussy; I'm not sure if Pentax's own flash is any better, but I kind of think it must be.

- The user interface panel is a confusing mess of barely-comprehensible icons and acronyms and poorly-labeled buttons.

- The manual is even worse, and not just because it was clearly not written by an English speaker.

So, that's a lot of negatives, but I'm still giving three stars because while the list of positives is shorter, they're all very strong positives. I had some initial buyer's remorse and was considering an exchange for the AF540FGZ, but I think I'll keep it in hopes that Pentax adds a swivel feature to the next version of the AF360FGZ, which then would be my use-most-of-the-time flash while this would be a wireless slave or option for when I need more power.

Not a worthy alternative to the Nikon SB-8002
Do yourself a favor...spend the extra $50 and get the Nikon SB-800 instead. I initially bought the Sigma EF-530 DG Super as a lower-cost alternative to the Nikon SB-800, and I regret it. I ended up buying the Nikon SB-800 after all.

Any way I use this flash, either standalone on-camera, wireless master or wireless slave, I have to make manual adjustments to exposure because it always over exposes. In addition, as a wireless master, it often miscommunicates with the slaves, resulting in slaves firing at full power, not only over-exposing the subject, but also wasting battery life.

To setup as a wireless slave, you must first attach the flash to camera, make your settings, then remove it from the camera. Then if you turn off the flash or accidentally press the "mode" button, you have to re-attach it to the camera and make all you settings all over again. Such a hassle. In comparison, the Nikon SB-800 or SB-600 can be setup as a wireless slave without having to attach the flash to the camera, and when you turn the Nikon flashes off and back on again, all the settings are the same a you left them, so they're always ready to go straight out of the bag.

One more thing, the menus on the Sigma are very cumbersome and not very intuitive.

Bottom line, if you're only ever going to use this flash as a standalone, and having to play with exposure settings is worth saving $50 to you, then you might be okay with the Sigma EF-530 DG Super, otherwise go with the Nikon SB-800.

Great flash, not the best option for strobists4
I ordered two of these for use in a "strobist" style setup without radio triggers. This was a big mistake because you cannot use the Pentax wireless commander mode with these units in Manual. Only pttl.
The only way to fire them on manual as slaves is with another flash which is contributing to the exposure.

They will work fine on manual with radio triggers such as Pocket Wizards or Skyports but even then they have an 80 second "timeout" where if they are not fired in 80 seconds, they turn off. That can be annoying. There may be a way to get around this though, when I get my radio triggers, if I can figure out a way to get pass that problem I will be sure to update here.

Other than that though they are great! Very powerful with a speedy recycle time (4.5 secs with NiMh batteries), tilt and swivel head, accurate pttl on and off camera.
It doesn't feel too "plasticy" to me but time will only tell how rugged they are.

Appears to be just as good as OEM unit5
Still testing this unit. However it is much higher quality than I thought for 1/4 the cost of the Sony unit. It plugs in perfectly and has a nice case and a screw to mount the unit to the tripod socket as well. I haven't used the Sony, but if this stands up to the test of time, not sure I would buy anything else.

Bescor KLK-65XT, VS 65 Video Light & MM 7 Battery, 75 Minute Run Time.
From Bescor

This product comes with a 100-watt AC bulb, and a 50-watt DC bulb.

My left shoulder is sagging from that battery pack!5
I had used this product before; a friend of a friend who is a shoots wedding videos professionally had let it to me, and as far as light output goes, it's a flamethrower. So when I was ready to buy one for myself, Bescor was the one.

I've used it both on a tripod and in the field. This YouTube video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PE5LSbMdlkg, is the first one I shot using this light (on a tripod, natch)

Having used the borrowed one in the field (with the light unit's tiny, adjustable barn doors, it's great as a fill-in-the-shadows light, even in daylight), I can tell you from experience: that battery pack is HEAVY! You can get about an hour of shooting time before you'll need to recharge, and that hour is about all your shoulder will be able to stand. (You can buy extra MM7 battery packs if your needs extend beyond 1 hr; they take about 10 hours to fully charge and they should NEVER be allowed to fully discharge). Oh, did I mention I was using the borrowed one on crutches, with a broken foot? Hey, gotta make a buck.

Oh, yes. Replacement bulbs are easy to purchase through most photographic equipment stores and online. For a klutz like me, that's a good thing.

Great Lamp, Terrible Battery Life2
I bought this product for my Camcorder for special events. After using it for 20 min. it died. The lamp it's ok for the money. I would recommend going the extra mile and get a bigger battery because you are going to be really disappointed with this product.

Flash doesn't work2
I tried mine on a Nikon P6000 with TTI. The camera accepts the flash but, the flash washes out every shot. I looked to adjsut it and spent over a day with the book on the camera. The flash didn't have much except for a sheet of paper. 47th Street photo told me that they would credit my account for the amount but that they didn't want the flash back as, it is a discontinued item.

Canon VL-5 Video Light for Mini Advanced Accessory Shoe

Not much brighter, but an upgrade from the Vixia's HF100's onboard light...4
I just bought the Vixia HF100 camcorder and the built-in video light is adequate if in a situation where you MUST shoot in a very low light setting. Unfortunately, the HF100's light is very much on the cool-blue end of the light spectrum and makes for some ugly skin tones and just plain awful video in general. The VL-5 light, while perhaps emitting only 25 to 50% more lumens than the onboard light, has a distinctly warm tone, which translates into better skin tones and an overall acceptable image. The VL-5 is small but not "tiny" (protrudes 2 3/8" from top of camera, and measures 2 1/2" from front to back at the widest point). The light has a switch for "On, Auto, and Off." You can't use both the onboard light and the VL-5 at the same time (the HF100 won't allow it). IMPORTANT NOTE: You'll have to update the firmware of your Vixia camcorder to 1.0.2 in order to use this light (download from Canon's website). I attempted to use the updater on my Mac Pro and had a glitch with the update: it said that my camera could not be updated. I think I needed to disconnect all of my computer's connected USB devices (other than keyboard, mouse) so the updater would get a clear "read" on the camera). I used my MacBook Pro to install the update and it worked fine (took about 8 minutes). Though it's a certainly overpriced, I'm going to keep it; my night-time videos will at least progress from the camera's default unacceptable and dreadful blue tone to an acceptable warm tone. Note: I think that this is the only accessory light that will currently work with the new Canon Vixia camcorders' "Mini Advanced Shoe."

quality accessory5
I bought this to use with my Canon HG-20 and the light works fine. It will turn on automatically when you begin to record when the light is not sufficient. It can also be set to stay on full time if you wish. The light runs on the camera's power so you don't have to worry about batteries, which is a feature I like alot. It also attaches easily as well without any undo effort. Once you slide it into its bracket, it has a small adjustment you turn to lock it in place, and it stays tight without moving until you unscrew that piece. The purchase was delived on time and I am pleased with the way AMAZON does its business. AMAZON clearly is one the best online merchants I have dealt with, and there are some real nightmares out there in TV land.

Overpriced, but I'm glad I bought it!4
I just got this product for my Canon HG20 and I am very happy that I purchased it. It got rid of a lot of the low light noise that the HG20 has For such a small light, it is very bright and helps show the potential that the HG20 has. Highly recommended. I'm only taking 1 star off due to the price.

An inexpensive method of going wireless and gaining control5
Pros: WORKS, simple, good choice of connections, and of course, CHEAP!!

Cons: Build quality feels cheap, may require some setup tweaking with
some adaptors for various flashes w/ no inputs,
Limited working distance (still great though!)

I researched many affordable kits available on the market and settled on
Alzo Digital's wireless solution. Does it offer the quality and advanced
circuitry of the top tier radio slave systems? No. However, does it
enable the user to have wireless manual control over an unlimited amount
of lighting units in a 60ft. range? Absolutely. Simply looking at the
cost-benefit, Alzo's device offers operation up to a safe 60' range (or
sometimes more) with various input configurations (pc, miniphone, 1/4"
phone) for a mere fraction of what a high end brand name system would
cost. The savings of, for instance, having a 3 or 4 receiver-transmitter
setup is just amazing for a budget-minded consumer - all while
delivering great performance that "just works" within the advertised
limits. If you're looking for a radio trigger solution for your flashes
or strobes that offers simple setup and basic configuration, and one
that actually WORKS - Alzo Digital's wireless flash trigger kit is a
GREAT choice. While the product is great, the customer service exceeded
my expectations. It is personalized and a representative works with you
through any question or problems you may have. There is good
communication and effort to help the customer. I would recommend this
product to other like-minded consumers.

It Works as advertised!!!5
I had some reservations about the reliability of the Flash Trigger Kit - I had seen and used similar devices locally and was not impressed - But!!! as soon as my Alzo Digital Flash Trigger arrived, I tested it over and over and used in the same enviroment and conditions (indoor/outodor studio settings) I wanted to use it in and it has surpassed my epectations - It is definetly a superb product - reliable - very well designed and Alzo Digital has it priced right - I highly recommend it.

If I still used s.l.r. film cameras I might want a brighter flash but I use it as a slave flash with a digital camera that is primarily a point and shoot model and it is more useful than I expected it to be. The zoom, tilt and swivel functions, which can be used together, are nice to have. Also, it retains the calculator on the back of the flash that has been dispensed with on many flashes now. It comes with a p.c. cord to enable it to be used with cameras that have a p.c. socket and can also be used with a hot shoe. If you don't understand what I'm talking about here then this flash isn't for you - you need to have a good basic knowledge of photography.Sunpak Digital Camera Flash Adapter

Outstanding Flash for Canon SX 10 IS!5
I recently upgraded from the Canon S5 IS to the SX 10 IS and bought this Sunpak not for the extra flash range, but simply to take that task from the camera, and quicken / improve the recycle time (and increase battery life). My primary use is for fill flash, and this is mostly outdoors.

The Sunpak is small, pocketable and does the job well! At it's size, I was amazed to find it had been designed to provide bounce flash as well. I've experimented with this indoors and now have a new benefit I was not counting on (or looking for).

I also love the fact that this flash sits nicely atop the SX 10IS (and G10) - having tried a competitor's flash previously, it almost looked as though the tail was wagging the dog. The smaller, shorter profile of this flash makes a perfect package, the balance and esthetics are excellent. I'm spareing technical details here, but will mention the E-TTL II interface has been just as claimed - it WORKS!

If you have an SX 10 IS (or it's big brother with HD Vid & RAW), a G9 or G10 ... or even a Powershot S5 IS, this flash will be worth every penny to you. I was skeptical on third-party E-TTL II compatability, this Sunpak has allayed those concerns. On top of all this, it fits nicely in a small pocket of your camera bag and looks great!

Perfect for Canon G Series4
I've been shooting with a Canon G9 for about a year or so. Although it does have a built-in flash, it (like every other built-in flash) is a recipe for redeye.

Let's face it, straight on-camera flash will make your subject look horrible. You need to get the flash off the camera or at least bounce the light to soften the shadows. This little unit works great when it comes to bouncing light off a ceiling or wall.

One nice thing about the Canon G cameras is that they work great with Canon's e-TTL flashes. Unfortunately, most flashes are larger than the camera. It seems kind of silly to own a G series camera and use it with a flash meant for a 5D.

Sunpak to the rescue. The RD2000 is small and light enough to match nicely with the G cameras. It uses only 2 AA batteries which helps keep the size down. The controls are minimal and I really like the ability to adjust exposure on the flash itself by just pushing a button. Even the foot is well designed and folds back into the flash body to keep things compact.

It's not the most powerful flash, but it does have enough power to allow for bounce flash. For rooms with higher than normal ceilings, it may be necessary to raise the ISO on the camera to 200, but that's a small price to pay.

If there's one shortcoming it's the build quality. I know that I've praised its light weight, but I could have lived with another ounce or two of weight if Sunpak had made this unit with heavier plastic. This is not pro-level gear and needs to be treated gently.

I also think that it's a bit pricey, but considering the alternatives, it may be the only logical solution to shooting flash with a G.

Sunpak Flash5
Very nice product at a VERY nice price. It is compact and easy to mount and use. Nice product, indeed.

Sigma EF-140 External Flash for Sigma DP1 Digital Cameras
From Sigma Corporation

Dedicated for use with Sigma DP1 Digital Camera

Made for the Dp-15
This flash is not the most powerful, won't bounce off the celing, but it works excellent on the the Dp-1. It stands tall to keep the light somewhat off axis helping the pictures to look a bit better with direct flash. It works very good as fill flash balanced with the ambient. Being small keeps the idea of the Dp-1 being a compact camera

A nostalgic flash for a compact camera3
The EF-140 is a good to have add on to the Sigma DP1 camera, which is the only TTL compatible flash for it. Flash power is well controlled without need to tweak DP1 setting. A good slim build flash accessories to increase the flash power without too much weight. The downside is the plastic material build is kind of weak build.

nice add on for an extra boost.4
first of all, the DP1 is an awesome camera that has extremely flexible RAW files. That being, there are rarely times when I need a flash. With this little flash, I can manually compensate for fill in bad conditions. I'd love to see a bounce option... why i gave it 4 stars, but it's compactness makes up for what it lacks... that's kind of the point of the camera/flash anyway right? The build quality is no where near as awesome as the camera body, but is still well built for a flash and has a super clean stylish look.

RS-0435D DUAL E-TTL OFF-CAMERA FLASH SHOE CORD FOR EOS FILM & DIGITAL CAMERAS
From Dot Line Corp

This dual TTL cord allows the triggering of 2 dedicated TTL flash units simultaneously. The junction has a female 1/4-20 thread. Terminals have locking shoe mounts. Each section is 3' coiled

  • Brand: Dot Line
  • Dimensions: .35 pounds

Works well when installed, but it won't come off.3
I installed the dual off camera ettl2 flash synch cord on a Canon 30D with two flashes mounted on a dual arm macro bracket. It was a bit heavy with all the gear, but the setup produced beautiful results. The problem is a small "locking" wire extending from the bottom of the connector becomes lodged in a threaded hole on the hotshoe. The connector will not come off. I even took it to a Canon factory authorized repair facility and they had to break the connector to remove it. If you don't mind a permanent setup, then this may work for you.

Works as advertised & well built!5
Originally I was worried that my two Canon 540EX flash lights would not work together while hooked up with this cord - but I was proven wrong! All the ETTL stuff works great and the two flash lights act as one. Excellent!

works as it should4
it works. a bit pricey but in comparison to canon products, it's a good buy. fittings seem solid, and cable is of nice quality. i rated it a 4-star because of price and its lack of 1/4-20 screw mounts as an option (it only has hotshoe mounts).

LumiQuest ProMax Mini SoftBox
From LumiQuest

The Mini SoftBox enlarges and diffuses the light with the flash in the direct flash position. Unobtrusive and low profile, the Mini SoftBox is ideal for press and other fast-moving situations.

  • Brand: LumiQuest
  • Model: LQ951D
  • Dimensions: .15 pounds

Excellent product for amateurs and pros5
I've owned LumiQuest's Mini SoftBox for years and it has been a winner for me. I shoot commercially both in-studio and on-location, and the Mini Softbox is terrific for removing the harsh glare of a normal dedicated external flash. The purpose of a softbox is to spread out the light so you don't end up with "hot spots", areas of white glare on people's skin which is caused by flash units. The Mini Softbox velcro's onto the flash unit, which doesn't bother me at all since I use it so much. Portraiture has much more pleasing lighting, and it's priceless for doing walk-around candids in an office or at a gathering when spontaneous action is needed.

The Mini Softbox is small and doesn't get in the way. It's durable and has lasted me for 6 years. I'm now buying a new one as I finally wore this one out. Pay no attention to the review saying it wasn't for professionals. I wouldn't do a location shoot without it. Works with any external flash unit and comes with the velcro strips to attach it. The velcro doesn't get in the way and it's almost unnoticeable when it's on the flash unit. Functionality is the main thing, so I highly recommend it.

Price + Performance + Ease of use = winner!5
this little softbox works wonders, when considering the cost of it, and what it's REALISTICALLY meant to do. it is not meant to replace a large or even medium softbox. if you're looking to soften up that much light, just buy a shoot through umbrella or a larger softbox. what this does is make the light from your speedlight/off camera flash MUCH less harsh. it takes a little getting used to, but i never ever leave without one of these in my bag. it also lessens the harshness of your flash to others as well, when shooting bands or public events. you lose about 1/3 of a stop, but if you know what you're doing you'll learn to compensate.

the only thing i didn't like about this is that the velcro comes attached to the softbox itself. the prickly side of the velcro is attached to the softbox, and assumes you put the soft side of the velcro on your speedlite. WRONG. i have all my other items (gobo, snoot, gel holder, etc) configured so that the hard velcro is on my speedlite, so i had to peel the velcro tape (quality velcro tape, btw) off the softbox, and stick the soft velcro back on the softbox. kind of a pain. let us make the decisions on our rigs next time, lumiquest.

but seriously, for this little money, you can't afford NOT to give it a shot. it does look a little goofy, but when you see the results, you won't mind how it looks. i haven't used my sto-fen diffuser since i bought this.

Good value for the money3
If you need an inexpensive, easy to use softbox, this is the one for you. It is definitely not professional quality, but provides a good solution for use on the go. It folds up nicely to travel in your camera bag, and gives a good flash dispersement. I'm not a fan of the Velcro attachments you have to glue to your flash, so I use 2 Velcro cable ties to secure it to my flash, a Nikon SB600.
